Are you ready for warm weather and open roads? If you’re like most Americans, you’re probably planning a road trip or two. But, before you map a route or book a hotel room, make sure your car is ready for summer. We have five tips here that will help you ready your car for the summer.

Tip #1: Check Your Tires
Throughout the colder months, your tires may have gone through a constant cycle of expanding and deflating. Make sure they’re in good condition before you hit the road this summer. Look for any cuts, gouges, or sidewall bulges. Check your tires once the car has been idle and the tires are cool. If they’re overinflated or underinflated, check the manufacturer’s recommended pressures and fix the problem. If a tire continues to underinflate, it may be damaged and require a repair or replacement.
Tip #2: Test the Battery
Check the battery for signs of disconnected or dirty cable connections. Hot weather can kill a weak battery, so you’ll want to have that checked before setting off. Checking your car’s battery is inexpensive and a great way to ensure you aren’t stranded with a broken-down car this summer.
Tip #3: Top Off Fluids
The fluids in your car lubricate all the moving parts. Without them, your car cannot run properly. Check the engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, and power steering fluid are at the appropriate levels for safe operation. When topping off your fluids, use products that meet the specific needs of your vehicle.
Tip #4: Check Hoses and Belts
Reinforced rubber drive belts are responsible for powering the water pump and accessories. Cracked, glazed, or frayed belts could leave you stranded at any time. Complete the same process for the hoses in your car — inspect and replace worn, brittle, bulging, or excessively soft hoses.
Tip #5: Check the A/C
Your A/C may not be at the forefront of your mind right now, but the last thing you want is a hot car with no A/C. That’s why it’s best to check the condition of your car’s A/C now. Most auto repair shops will do this for little to no charge.
